My name is Lynda Fullerton. I am a certified, registered and approved Play and Creative Arts Therapist working in and around the Bristol area. I have worked closely with children and their families for over 20 years in schools, nurseries, Children and Family Centres, Community Groups and in their homes.
I have always been passionate about the mental health and emotional well-being of children and about using creative ways to support children through play.
I offer Play Therapy to children, to help them to support their social, emotional, behavioural and mental health needs, .so they can work towards reaching their full potential in personal growth and subsequently improve their relationships with the key people in their lives.
I have many years of experience working closely with families who have children with Special Educational Needs, through my role in the Local Authority Inclusion Team.
Play therapy can allow children with developmental and health needs to discover what physical and emotional strengths they have and can support them to develop new skills and understandings.
I use a person-centred, holistic and integrative approach and I tailor my sessions as required, to meet the individual needs of a child.
Key Skills:
I have experience in establishing, managing and promoting therapeutic provision both as an independent Play and Creative Arts Therapist and as part of Children’s Services.
This work involves assessing, planning and implementing non-directive and directive, individual and group play therapy to meet a range of Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties.
Experience:
I have worked in a range of roles, all working closely with children and their families. I joined the Local Authority in 2008 and my most recent role was an advisory role within an Inclusion Team in Bristol; working with families and settings to deliver a range of support, information and training to ensure families and settings were confident in providing inclusive practice and support to children who have Disability and/or Special Educational Needs. I have many years of experience working with children who have Autism, ADHD, complex medical needs and learning needs or attachment difficulties; this work has helped me to grow personally and professionally.
I am a qualified Regional Makaton Tutor and have provided families and teaching staff with a range of Makaton courses across Bristol since 2013. It is so delightful observing the joy Makaton brings to children and their Carers.
I am passionate about the therapeutic potential of the creative process of therapy and the individual benefits it can bring children.
